As the leaves turn golden and the air turns crisp, don’t we all wish we could embody the heady spirit of fall a la Nora Ephron? Only Scorpios are so lucky. Reigning on the calendar from October 23 to November 21, the scorpion gracefully falls in the middle of the season; as a fixed zodiac sign, they are known as the stable anchors of autumn. “As a water sign co-ruled by Mars and Pluto, this headstrong Scorpio tends to go through life with a determination and passion that some consider obsessive,” says Sanctuary astrologer Lauren Ash.

As the babies of “spooky season,” Scorpios are known to wear their Halloween masks all year round. “There’s a lot lurking beneath the surface of the cool, calm personality that this sign tries to put on with others,” Ash says. Beneath this smoldering facade, you will discover a passionate yet complex soul that leaves you wanting more. It’s no wonder the scorpion can be a total heartbreaker! “They love to play their mysterious persona and use their sense of style to communicate their vibe to those around them,” Ash adds.

This alluring aura can only be interpreted by rich blooms in saturated colors for our Scorpio floral horoscope (or as we like to call it, Floriscope). “They’ll probably be blood red, magenta, black, or purple,” Ash explains.

For florist Mark Thompson of Birmingham’s Shoppe, burgundy scabiosas, crimson coleus spikes, coral buttercups and antique hydrangeas evoked the moodiness and passion of the scorpion. He layered purple-veined begonia foliage and wine-tinted castor leaves for visual depth, speaking to the sign’s underlying complexities.

“Plants that thrive in hot or undesirable conditions are representative of the resilient spirit of Scorpio,” Ash says. To this, Thompson added heat-loving scarlet geraniums. Blooms that make a splash, like fluffy peonies, and fragrant blooms, like lilac alliums (a favorite of bees and butterflies), are as alluring as the mysterious soul of a Scorpio.
