CHICAGO— BAPA and Ridge Historical Society come together to celebrate the contribution made to the architectural beauty of Beverly and Morgan Park by three generations of Hetherington family architects with a special exhibit at the Ridgeland Historical Society’s spring opening and a showcase of Hetherington-designed homes during BAPA’s Beverly/Morgan Park home visit on Sunday, May 15.
The tour will begin with check-in at the Ridge Historical Society in the Graver-Driscoll House where visitors can view the exhibit that will tell the story of the Hetheringtons beginning with John Todd through his son Murray and grandson Jack, and how their designs influenced the built beauty of Beverly/Morgan Park. The exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of the construction of the Graver-Driscoll House, designed by John Todd Hetherington and which has served as the historic society’s headquarters since the 1970s.
The Hetheringtons designed residences, churches, and park buildings throughout Chicagoland. In Beverly/Morgan Park, some of these buildings are iconic: the Ridge Park and Graver Park country homes, the rectory at the Church of the Holy Nativity, Barker Hall at Morgan Park Academy, the ice cream parlor Original Rainbow Cone and many of the community’s most popular restaurants. beautiful homes.
BAPA’s Beverly/Morgan Park Home Tour will open the doors to select Hetherington buildings for an inside look at the exceptional interior details designed by three generations of architects. The Home Tour also offers a variety of fun and informative in-home experiences, including food and drink tastings, music, and the annual painting presentation sponsored by Paint and wallpaper Calumet.
For more than four decades, BAPA’s Beverly/Morgan Park Home Tour has opened the doors to some of the neighborhood’s most notable private residences. Tickets for the home tour are $30 in advance and are available online on BAPA. The price increases to $35 on the day of the visit.
Home visiting locations are open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. All tours are self-guided and must begin at 3 p.m. at the Ridge Historical Society, 10621 S. Seeley Ave., Chicago.
