Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves’ Unusual Lifestyle Revealed

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves live a dream existence away from the spotlight with their three children, but there is something unusual about their home.

The couple have been married since 2012 and are parents to Levi, 13, Vida, 12 and Livingston, nine.

They are an incredibly tight-knit family and that includes staying close to Matthew’s 90-year-old mother, Mary Kay – so much so that they live a stone’s throw away.

When they moved from Hollywood to Texas, Matthew’s home state, they made sure to be as close to Mary as possible.

In fact, she was a big reason they left California. At the time, Matthew said: “My mum is there, the rest of my family is there, part of the reason for going back was to have kids.”

While many women don’t want their mother-in-law on their doorstep, that’s not the case when it comes to Camila and Mary’s relationship.

Matthew’s mother lives very close to the couple and their children

They see her every weekend and in an interview with Peter Travers, Matthew admitted: “It’s important for the children, important for Camila and me, important for my mother.”

Mary Kay is very present on Camila’s social networks and during a joint interview on The Drew Barrymore ShowMatthew’s beloved mother admitted: “We get along very well together.”

That being said, they agreed that Mary Kay “tested” Camila a lot early on. “I was testing it,” she confessed. “I mean everyone who was going to date my son that I wanted to know a bit more about.”

Matthew’s mother loves being around her grandchildren

Camila and Matthew are both parents and the Golden Globe winner opened up about being a dad to City and countryside in 2020.

“I’m more consistently the yes guy,” he confessed. “Sometimes loving your kids means giving them exactly what they want. Other times it means tough love. Wealthy people can give their children anything they want, but they usually won’t get what they need. Loving a child is much harder if you really care.”
