Matt Lucas and Rebel Wilson’s Unusual Living Arrangement That Annoyed Neighbors
Little Britain comedian Matt Lucas, who is on Who Do You Think You Are?, played housemates in hit film Bridesmaids, then made it a reality
Matt Lucas and Rebel Wilson played roommates in a movie — then turned it into reality.
The Little Britain comedian who’s playing tonightWho Do You Think You Are?, starred as the American actress’ brother in the 2011 hit comedy Bridesmaids.
This led people to believe that they might be related in real life, married or even the same person.
“We played roommates so well in Bridesmaids that we were like, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna do this for real,'” Rebel explained on Conan in September 2012.
They had a great time living together, but maybe it was too much fun as they received an anonymous letter from a neighbor which Rebel described as “a little disturbing”.
“Dear neighbour, I live somewhere behind you,” she read, confessing that the first line was “weird.”

The neighboring resident threatened to phone the police if they kept making noise late at night – and they noticed Matt’s British accent.
Wilson continued: “I’m glad you’re enjoying your new pool and hot tub, but I’m trying to sleep. I can hear everything you say, even British accents. If you keep making noise after 10 p.m. I’ll call the cops. We have rules here in West Hollywood, seriously.”
Wilson paused to explain that “seriously” was underlined, then continued reading, “And stop singing Annie show tunes. You’re both way too old to be considered orphaned children.” The Sunshine will come out tomorrow” – yeah, and the cops too!”
The letter ended with a “welcome to the neighborhood” message, but you didn’t see the message for a week because they didn’t know where the mailbox key was.
She joked, “At least we mixed it up a bit. We did Oklahoma!, Little Shop of Horrors, Fiddler on the Roof…the neighbors don’t like it.”
The couple ended up living together for three years – but surprisingly, they never got on each other’s nerves.
“We never really argued about anything, not even the basics,” Matt told the BBC in September 2015, explaining that she would load the dishwasher and he would unload.
Matt said: “I think we just didn’t have that, it was a really interesting thing with Rebel because we met and we were cast as siblings (in 2011’s Bridesmaids ) and people thought we were brother and sister, husband and wife, the same person or all three.
“But when we met it was like complete synchronicity, we’re both very laid back and we’re also very driven professionally and I see that in her and she sees that in me but we’re not competitive because we just enjoy each other working.”
After three glorious years, Rebel moved on after making the “decision to become a big movie star and buy a house”.
However, the showbiz pals remained “buddy buddies” as Matt split his time between London and California.
Matt added: “It means she doesn’t sneeze anymore because I think she was a little allergic to my dogs, but we had fun and are still close friends.”
The pair have supported each other in public, with Rebel defending his longtime friend after his show Little Britain was pulled from Netflix because of its black-faced characters.
Lucas and his co-star David Williams issued an apology after it was revealed the site was dropping the show, along with other streaming services including BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
During an interview on Australian news program Studio 10, the Pitch Perfect star said: “Matt Lucas’ Little Britain show has been taken down which I just think is a bit crazy.
“They obviously played a lot of different characters on this show.”
She added of Matt: “We lived together for three years. He’s amazing…he’s the nicest, most decent human being ever!”
This week Matt gave his support to Rebel after it came out in an Instagram post

Matt appears on tonight’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? – and he made a remarkable discovery while traveling to Amsterdam to find out more about the aunts and cousins of his German-Jewish grandmother Margot.
He discovers that one of his ancestors lodged with Anne Frank’s family and was mentioned in her world famous diary.
Emotional Matt learned that one of his ancestors, Werner Goldschmidt, Matt’s grandmother’s cousin, is featured in The Diary of a Young Girl.
When asked if he was surprised to find that Werner was staying with Frank’s family, Matt replied: “Yes, my ancestor would have known Anne Frank, the author of one of the most important books never written in. And Werner is actually mentioned in the diary.
“That’s the one story that everybody knows if you don’t know any other, that story about what happened to the Jews in World War II, you know the story of the Frank family.
“I read it when I was younger and never realized it was about a relative of mine.”
